Periodically, you will want to update your chat client to the most recent version.
You will find your current FCChat version in the FCChat/config/config.js file, contained within the version parameter.
Upgrading from a version prior to 22.214.171.124: If you have changed the default location of the full page chat, you will need to copy the new fcchat/html/chat/index.php file to this location, and set $FCCHAT_BASE_URL once again.
Preparing for an Update
When you upgrade to a new version, any customizations you made to the files within the FCChat/ folder will be erased. In order to preserve those changes, do the following:
- Make backup copies of any files that you have altered. You may wish to make backups of the following folders: (fcchat/config, fcchat/languages, fcchat/styles, fcchat/html/config). Place them in a safe place where they will not be deleted.
- Next install the new version.
- Finally, manually copy the changes you made to the old files into the current version’s files. Do not replace the new files with the old files, as the structure of the new files may have changed; but instead, reimplement the changes manually, line by line.
If you have created a custom language or style template, it is your responsibility to keep it up to date with the current version of the chat. You may do this by comparing your custom template to similar templates in the FCChat distribution. FCChat is designed so that old language templates will be compatible with newer versions of the chat; However, you still need to keep your custom language templates up to date, because new language is contantly being added. Old style templates, on the other hand, may or may not be compatible with newer versions, so that you will need to inspect them for compatiblity with each update.
Generally, you will need to clear your browser cache after an update. This gets the old version out of the browser memory. Failure to do this may cause the chat to function improperly.
Sometimes an update will trigger a reboot of the FCChat server. When this happens, there will usually be a period of 1-2 min, during which, your chat will not function properly. Do not be alarmed – just keep refreshing the web page in your browser for a few minutes until the reboot is complete.
